This time it was a Strawberry Diesel that got picked as our bud of the week. This particular Strawberry Diesel is a cross of Strawberry Cough and Sour Diesel. What you get is a very potent resinous Strawberry Diesel plant.
The girl in the picture was a clone and was vegged for 25 days from rooting then put into the flowering room. She was 26" tall and at day 34 flowering when the picture was taken. She was grown in a coco medium.
The grower describers the smell as a nice fruity fuely smell while flowering.
I was very impressed with the information I seen when I did some research on the strain. Because of this I hope to review it in the future. From what I seen it developed a lot of trichomes. It has been described as a very sticky bud that you have to use scissors on when breaking it up, otherwise it sticks to your fingers.
To see more pictures like this and other buds of the week head over to our Buds Of The Week page.
If you have pictures you would like featured as our bud of the week you can find information and the address to submit them to on the Buds Of The Week page. You can also submit them via the Contact Us page. (We didn't have much to choose from for this bud of the week pick. So please submit your pictures)
Since we were unable to get law makers to approve legalizing medical marijuana in Massachusetts, we have five weeks left to collect over 11,000 signatures to get the legalization question on Novembers Ballot.
Those collecting signatures think it will be a easy task. Jennifer Manley, spokeswoman for a coalition of patients, doctors and civil liberties advocates known as the committee for compassionate medicine said, "We'll get way more than the 11,000"
In order for it to be valid, the signatures will need to be certified by town clerks no later than June 19th. Then it needs to be filed with the Secretary of State.
Supporters of a measure that would clear the way for 35 medical marijuana dispensaries to open in 2013 now have five weeks to gather 11,485 signatures and see if Massachusetts voters will decide next fall to join 16 other states that have already legalized the drug for medical treatment.
If passed, the state would allow 35 nonprofit only medical marijuana dispensaries in the state. Doctors are only able to prescribe marijuana to people suffering from debilitating medical conditions. Those conditions would include cancer, HIV/AIDS, glaucoma, Hepatitis C, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, crohn's disease, and other conditions determined by qualified patient's physicians in writing.
Medical marijuana is officially legal in 16 states. I say officially because Connecticut senate has approved medical marijuana, and all that's needed for it to become official is the Mayor's signature. On May 5th 2012 the Mayor stated he is going to sign it. So if Massachusetts legalizes medical marijuana, it will be the 18th state to legalize it.
So those of you who live in Massachusetts like I do, if you see anyone with a clipboard asking people questions make sure you don't pass them up. Ask them if they are collecting signatures for the legalization of medical marijuana and sign it. The more signatures the better. If you have friends in favor of medical marijuana pass this article along to them. As I always ask my readers when I write about something important, share this on Facebook, Tweet about it with the URL to the post. There are buttons below every post to help you easily share this on your favorite social network.
I want to apologize about the Facebook like box being broken and not displaying properly along with the Like us on Facebook, and Follow us on Twitter buttons in this post. I am trying to figure out whats wrong but it seems as though its a problem with blogger and there is nothing I can do.
I also want to let you know I planned on picking my next bud of the week picture but I did not get much submissions so I am waiting a bit longer. We need your submissions. Your pictures could be picked and featured here on Cannabis Country. You can find our e-mail address on the Buds of the week page along with other pages.
Also, if you have any questions we would love to help you. Its been awhile since we have gotten a question in. Don't be shy, the only stupid question is the one you DON'T ASK.
This time we will be reviewing Afgan Kush. Afgan Kush happens to be one of my favorite strains for many reasons. As its name suggests, its origins are from the Hindu-Kush mountain range. Afgan Kush is a very potent indica used by the locals for making Charas. It is very resinous which makes it perfect for making Charas AKA Hash. Afgan Kush makes a very good medical strain and is best for stress, anxiety and pain.
Grow Review:
Like the original Afgan strain, Afgan Kush is great for beginners because of its ease of growing. It is a very vigorous plant that does not require a whole lot of attention. It is resilient to mold and diseases which adds to the beginner friendliness.
If you decide to top the plant or do any LST (Low Stress Training) you can make it into a big bush. Just be careful how big you get it because it does stretch a bit when it starts to flower.
It is a good yielder and it produces very stinky buds. You can open the curing jar and it will literally fill the room with a sweet odor. Your buds will be full of trichomes so its a very sticky bud. The Afgan Kush I grew made colorful buds which gave it great bag appeal. The longer I cured it, the better the smell and taste was. The buds also got denser during the long cure.
Smoke Review:
The taste of this bud is very similar to its smell. It is sweet and very smooth with a good cure and it fills the room with a pleasant smell. It makes a great medicinal strain, at first you will get a little uppity but soon after it will have a couch-lock effect. Beginners will find this smoke to be very strong. Its wise to take a few hits and see how it effects you before smoking more. Those of you smoking it for medical purposes will find its very effective. Within minutes your pain should dull and your stress and anxiety lesson. It is a great strain to smoke at night when your ready to relax or go to bed.
We want our readers to be able to contribute to Cannabis Country. If you have a strain review you have done, or a edible's recipe, we want to hear it. We are also always accepting picture submissions for our buds of the week pick.
After a 10 hour debate the senate voted 21-13 approving a bill to legalize medical marijuana in Connecticut. All that's left for it to become law is for the governor to sign the bill. The governor does plan to sign the bill so Connecticut will be the 16 state to legalize medical marijuana.
Once medical marijuana becomes legal in Connecticut approximately one third of the US population will reside in a state that has legalized medical marijuana.
Connecticut plans to learn from the mistakes other states has made and have strict regulations for the medical marijuana program. Once legalized Connecticut might have the most strict regulations of any state for medicinal marijuana. Just getting prescribed it will be a hurdle.
The New England clean sweep may happen this year with the possibility of New Hampshire legislature overriding the Governor’s oft veto of their medical cannabis bills next week. Also this November Massachusetts voters are expected to approve by a large margin a medical cannabis legalization initiative (in 2008 Massachusetts voters approved a decriminalization initiative by a whopping sixty five percent). This is the state I reside in so I am hoping things go as planned. Currently signatures are being collected to get the legalization question on Novembers ballot. It is expected to pass once on the ballot.
Those of you from Connecticut probably have questions, luckily we have answers for you. We got a Q and A from courant.com. You can also see the Q and A's right on there website.
Q: Who would be eligible to use medical marijuana, if the proposed legislation becomes law?
A: To qualify, a patient would need to be certified by a physician as having a debilitating medical condition — cancer, glaucoma, HIV, AIDS, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, damage to the nervous tissue of the spinal cord with objective neurological indication of intractable spasticity, epilepsy, cachexia, wasting syndrome, Crohn's disease, post-traumatic stress disorder, or any medical condition, medical treatment or disease approved by the Department of Consumer Protection and a Board of Physicians that would be established. Patients would have to be at least 18. Prison inmates would not qualify, regardless of their medical condition.
Q: What about other medical conditions for which patients could benefit from medical marijuana?
A: An eight-member Board of Physicians would be established, including physicians and surgeons who are board-certified in one of the following specialties: neurology, pain medicine, pain management, medical oncology, psychiatry, infectious disease, family medicine or gynecology. The board would be able to determine additional medical conditions, medical treatments or diseases that qualify for the palliative use of marijuana. A process to petition the board and to comment on additions under consideration would be established.
Q: How would patients obtain medically approved marijuana?
A: Marijuana would be dispensed only by pharmacists specifically licensed to dispense it to patients with a certificate from a physician. A qualifying patient and his or her primary caregiver would be required to register with the Department of Consumer Protection. A primary caregiver who has ever been convicted of violating any law pertaining to a controlled substance would not be permitted to register.
Q: What would a physician have to do to prescribe marijuana?
A: The physician would be required to make a medically reasonable assessment that it would be in the patient's best interest, based on the patient's medical history and medical condition, in the course of a bona fide physician-patient relationship. The physician who diagnosed the qualifying patient also would have to explain the potential risks and benefits of palliative marijuana to the patient or, if the patient lacks legal capacity, to the patient's parent, guardian or other legal custodian. Physicians could not have any financial interest in a pharmacy licensed to dispense marijuana.
Q: Would every pharmacy in the state dispense medical marijuana?
A: No. Licensed pharmacies would need to obtain a dispensary license from the commissioner of the Department of Consumer Protection. The commissioner would determine the maximum number of licenses appropriate to meet the needs of qualifying patients in the state. The commissioner also would develop regulations on how often pharmacies would have to renew their dispensary licenses (at least every two years), licensing fees and areas where dispensaries could not be located, based on the criteria governing the location of retail liquor premises.
Q: Who would grow the marijuana?
A: The consumer protection commissioner would license producers to cultivate marijuana and distribute it within the state. At any one time, the number of licensed producers would have to be at least three and not more than 10. Producers would have to pay a nonrefundable application fee of at least $25,000 for a producer license, and licenses would have to be renewed at least every five years. Producers would have to demonstrate that they could grow pharmaceutical-grade marijuana in a secure indoor facility and also have the ability to prevent diversion or theft of the marijuana that they grow.
Q: Would patients be permitted to grow their own marijuana?
A: No.
Q: Does the legislation require health insurers to cover medical marijuana?
A: No. The bill explicitly says it does not.
Q: Would patients be able to use medical marijuana anywhere?
A: No. The law would prohibit ingesting marijuana in a bus, a school bus or any moving vehicle; in the workplace; on any school grounds or any public or private school, dormitory, college or university property; in any public place; or in the presence of anyone under 18. It also would prohibit any use of palliative marijuana that endangers the health or well-being of another person, other than the patient or primary caregiver.
Q: How much marijuana could a patient have on hand?
A: No more than a one-month supply.
Q: Could a landlord refuse to rent to someone or take action against a tenant because the tenant uses medical marijuana?
A: No.
Q: Could a school refuse to enroll someone because the person qualifies to use medical marijuana?
A: No.
Q: Could an employer decide not to hire someone or decide to fire that person because the person uses medical marijuana?
A: No.
Q: What are the main arguments in favor of the bill?
A: Some patients with debilitating conditions say they have tried numerous prescription drugs without success, including some medicines that have serious side effects, and that only medical marijuana can offer them relief. Advocates of legalizing medical marijuana also cite its low cost and say that doctors and patients should be given the option to use this natural alternative, which can be taken in various forms, including edibles, tinctures, vaporization and topical creams; in most cases, smoking is the least desirable method of delivery. Supporters of the bill note that the federal government has not gone after patients, growers, caregivers or dispensaries that are in strict compliance with state and local laws. Erik A. Williams, executive director of Connecticut NORML, also says that teen marijuana usage has dropped in every state where medical marijuana has been legalized and that the message to young people would be that Connecticut is a compassionate state.
Q: What are the main arguments against the bill?
A: The Connecticut State Medical Society contends that more research is needed to adequately determine how well medical marijuana works. It also cites concerns about quality control and standardization, as well as contamination with pesticides and microbes, and argues that patients cannot be assured a reliable and reproducible dose. U.S. Attorney David Fein says the state law would authorize conduct contrary to federal law and undermine the federal government's efforts to regulate the possession, manufacture and trafficking of controlled substances. Fein said that the U.S. Department of Justice would not focus on seriously ill individuals who use marijuana, but that it would pursue growing facilities and dispensaries that would be violating federal law. The legislation's opponents also say that marijuana is a dangerous drug and that legalizing its use would send the wrong message to young people.
Q: Is this the first time that Connecticut legislators have tried to pass a medical marijuana bill?
A: No. Lawmakers passed a medical marijuana bill in 2007, but Gov. M. Jodi Rell vetoed it. Last year, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy backed a medical marijuana bill that would have allowed qualifying patients to grow their own marijuana for medicinal use but it failed to become law, although lawmakers did approve the decriminalization of a small amount of marijuana.
Q: Where does the proposed law stand at this point?
A: If Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signs it, the law will take effect Oct. 1. Provisions on registering patients, caregivers, pharmacies and producers and on establishing a Board of Physicians will take effect immediately. Follow @CannabisCountry
